Global Warming |
Radiation from the sun passes through the
Earth's atmosphere and strikes the Earth's surface. When
radiation does not bounce back into space, the heat is trapped on
the surface of the Earth. Human activity has increased the
amount of heat that is trapped on the surface of the Earth.
One of these gases trapped is carbon dioxide. The Earth's
surface has increased over time causing the United Nations to take
action. The United Nations has imposed a Carbon Dioxide tax.
President Bill Clinton signed a treaty to reduce emissions into the
air. Scientists believe most of the greenhouse gases come from
human activity. |

Wind Power |
Wind power saves millions of emissions
yearly. A wind turbine is a machine rotated by the wind that
converts energy. Wind power is an energy source. |

Solar Energy |
Solar energy is heat and light from the
sun. Solar energy may be passive or active. Solar
thermal heating systems use fans to move air. A solar hot
water heating system pumps water throughout a house. A
solarium is heated by the rays from the sun. |

Earth Day |
Earth Day was founded in 1969. The
United Nations celebrates Earth Day one day each year. U.S.
Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin founded a second Earth Day
celebrated one day each year. One of the goals of Earth Day is
to create a carbon-free future. |

George Washington was the first U.S.
President. The Republican Party was founded in 1854.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt spent the longest time as U.S.

Facts About Earthworms |
During freezing temperatures, earthworms
will burrow down deep into the soil to avoid extreme cold.
Earthworms hatch from eggs. Earthworms may live for many

The Civil War |
The American Civil War was fought between
the Confederate Army and the Union Army. There were many
casualties during the Civil War. In 1862, U.S. President
Abraham Lincoln ordered slaves to be freed. The Confederate
Army surrendered and ended the Civil War. |

Christopher Columbus |
Christopher Columbus explored the Atlantic
Ocean. Columbus left Spain in 1492 with three ships named the
Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria. Columbus returned to
Spain in 1493. Columbus died May 20, 1506. |

Tenochtitlan was located on Lake Texcoco.
Tenochtitlan is known as Mexico City today. |
